Affleck wins Juvenile Championship

They are the best performed two-year-olds of the season thus far and accordingly finished 1-2 to give Laurie Laxon the quinella in the S$200,000 Juvenile Championship over 1200m at Kranji here today.

AFFLECK has won twice in three starts and his only defeat came at the hands of KIWI KARMA two runs back in the Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe in May.

KIWI KARMA had three wins and two seconds from five outings but went down tamely to AFFLECK last time out.

That results hold true again today in the Group 3 contest as AFFLECK, after sitting nicely behind the pace early, took the lead at the 300m to beat KIWI KARMA by one and a quarter lengths.

KIWI KARMA was the first to break and led early but was eased back to sit third on the rails on settling down. He came on again in the final 100m but found the winner too game.

"He’s the top juvenile this year. In the other group race (Aushorse Golden Horseshoe), he was flat on that day and was later scoped with mucus," said jockey Danny Beasley.

"Any other horse who is diagnosed with mucus would probably have run last but he still ran second to KIWI KARMA."
