After sidelined one year
through disqualification and spending two years riding trackwork after that,
apprentice Thavarajan Barnabas landed his first winner since his comeback
two months ago when successful on KAZUO in the Initiation - 1200m sprint on
the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.
KAZUO was finishing
strongly when third in his debut over 1000m on the polytrack last month.
Tonight, the New Zealand four-year-old raced with the pace but had to stave
off a late bid by CONSTANCE'S SPIRIT before winning by a head.
It was Barnabas' first win
since January 2011 before he ran foul of the stewards.
"It’s been a long time.
Finally!" Barnabas said on return to scale. "I’ve learned from my mistakes
and I’m now fully focused on getting my career back on track."
The lad was a promising
sort before his disqualification with 23 winners to his name.
