Apprentice Ng lands first winner

MOGAN'S PRIDE collars HAPPY MELANG close to home to give apprentice Ng Choon Kiat's his first win

Ng Choon Kiat's decision to relocate to Malaysia to launch his riding career paid off handsomely here this afternoon when he landed his first winner on MOGAN'S PRIDE in the Japan Racing Association Trophy.

The Singapore lad was initially learning his trade in his home country but it was only after he joined trainer Lim Hoon Seng in Penang that he finally obtained his 'B' apprentice jockey licence two months ago.

Prior to today, Ng, 25, has ridden seven times for one placing, and that incidentally came on MOGAN'S PRIDE last month.

But the sign pointed to a breakthrough this afternoon when he finished second on LUCKY MONEY in the opening event.

Two rides later, he made no mistake to guide MOGAN'S PRIDE to the gelding's second win in 15 starts.

Fittingly, the winner is trained by his master Lim.
