After enduring a
frustrating 2013 during which he started just twice, DEVIL'S CUT showed that
the worst is behind him with a gutsy win in the Benchmark 97 - 1400m
handicap at Kranji here tonight.
Ridden by A'Isisuhairi
Kassim who has partnered in all his three runs since resuming from a
10-month spell, the Australian gelding was always well up with the pace, hit
the front in the straight and fought off a late bid by HOT GOLD to win by a
nose.
DEVIL'S CUT has been
running to form since coming back from his prolonged spell, finishing fourth
first-up last December, then set the pace last time out before running out
of steam and finished second.
DEVIL'S CUT, purchased for
A$75,000 at the Horses In Training Sale, had a promising start to his career
in 2012 when he won three times in five starts.
There were two big
surprises for the evening, starting with FAITHFUL WARRIOR leading all the
way in the opening race to pay S$150 for a win.
GYPSY STAR, whose only
previous win came 12 months ago, came from a long way back to win the Class
5, Div 2 - 1200m sprint to pay S$239 for a win.
