A five-month break was just
what FAALTLESS needed as shown by his easy victory in the Group 3 S$200,000
Garden City Trophy over 1200m at Kranji here today.
After notching four wins
and two seconds from his first six starts, the Australian gelding was
unplaced in the Singapore 3YO Challenge back in April when tested for the
first time beyond 1200m.
His comeback today seemed a
daunting task as he came up against smart gallopers like EMPEROR MAX, who
started odds-on, GOAL KEEPER and DAVIDE, all of them group winners.
But FAALTLESS, under Danny
Beasley, not only romped home by two and a half lengths, he also rewrote the
long course record held previously by MEXICAN ROSE with a time of 1min
8.74secs.
A delighted trainer Shane
Baertschiger said: "His first-up form is terrific – never beaten. Danny said
he worked sensational and he was also very confident. I was expecting a good
run, but probably not the win."
FAALTLESS was purchased by
Baertschiger for NZ$160,000 at the New Zealand Ready To Run Sale. His dam is
a half-sister to the Australian champion SO YOU THINK so there is plenty
going for the four-year-old going forward.
