Hong Kong 'old boys' on show at Kranji

It was very much Hong Kong day at the races at Kranji today despite the main feature being the S$200,000 Jumbo Jet Trophy.

Apart from the Hong Kong Jockey Clun Trophy, all other ten races were named after renowned Hong Kong landmarks.

And as it turned out, it was two Hong Kong 'old boys' who hogged the limelight.

David Hill, who trained successfully in Hong Kong for many years before relocating to Singapore in 2006, saddled FLAX to win the Group 3 Jumbo Jet Trophy over 1400m.

It was a magnificent comeback win the the 2012 Raffles Cup and 2013 Chairman's Trophy who has been troubled by suspensory problems. Today's outing was just his second this year.

Ridden for the first time by Ivaldo Santana, the South African gelding came from near last at the home turn to beat DANIEL by a head to bring his record to eight wins from 20 starts.

Alan Munro, who rode successfully in Hong Kong for many seasons (winning the 1997 Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup on INDIGENOUS and the 2000 Hong Kong Gold Cup and QE II Cup on INDUSTRIALIST), won the Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy astride ABSOLUTELY.

The New Zealand gelding had to stave off the challenge of TO BE REMEMBERED before winning by a nose in the Class 3 - 1400m handicap. It was the third win in five starts for ABSOLUTELY.
