REBEL FURY, who made a
winning Malaysian debut in the Tunku Gold Cup last year, has bounced back to
form at the right moment to win the 1200m sprint classic for the second time
at Sungei Besi here today.
Ridden this time by Jai
Shankar, the newly-crowned champion jockey parked the Australian
seven-year-old in fourth spot till the home turn before challenging the
leaders COLIN THE FIRTH and ATTORNEY GENERAL for the lead.
It was only in the final
200m that REBEL FURY surged to the front and drew away to win by one length
and a quarter.
After his debut win last
year, REBEL FURY picked up one more win two runs later but then struggled to
regain his winning form, until today.
It was the second
consecutive big win for trainer Shane Edwards who in December saddled
MONSILI to win the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup (2000m) in Penang.
Edwards trained REBEL FURY
to win seven races in Western Australian before bringing the gelding to
Malaysia when he relocated here early last year.
