MEXICAN GAL bounced back
after two disappointing runs to win the Novice - 1200m sprint on the
polytrack thanks to the use of blinkers for the first time at Kranji here
tonight.
The daughter of former
Singapore champion mare MEXICAN ROSE won her racing debut back in July but
failed to show up in the Juvenile Championship in her next start.
Another unplaced run in a
Novice event followed but the new gear she sported tonight was instrumental
in getting to the line first tonight.
Partnered for the first
time by Rueven Ravindra, MEXICAN GAL went to the front from the word "go",
chased by the odds-on favorite GOLDEN TOMAHAWK. She beat off the latter and
then just held on to score by a neck from CLIP THE TICKET.
"She gets spooked when she
is around runners. She’s field-shy, and my word, the blinkers helped her
tonight," said leading trainer Laurie Laxon who brought his season's tally
to 62 with the win.
