New name for Sultan Gold

Sultan Gold Vase, the only big race run over a straight course (in Ipoh) on the local circuit, has a new name this year. The race, first run in 1950 when won by MISS NATHAN, will now be called Perak Gold Vase. Unfortunately for owners, trainers and jockeys, that's not the only change. Prizemoney for the race has also been slashed by half to RM200,000. Both the Selangor Turf Club and Penang Turf Club have already reduced the prizemoney on offer for their big races since 2012.  |
