Goodman takes home Chairman's Trophy

Being the only three-year-old and tackling 1800m for the first time proved no barrier for GOODMAN in the S$300,000 Chairman's Trophy at Kranji here today.

Ridden by Corey Brown, the New Zealand gelding made all the running to win by half a length from this year's Queen Elizabeth II Cup winner WILD GEESE.

Last season's champion three-year-old STEPITUP has to make do with another minor placing after his second-place finish in the Patrons' Bowl and Emirates Singapore Derby.

GOODMAN himself went through some heartbreaks with placings in the Three Rings Trophy, Singapore 3YO Classic and Singapore Guineas earlier this year.

But back-to-back wins last month and two weeks ago saw him started second favourite behind STEPITUP in the Group 2 contest today.

"He’s a better horse when chasing from the back but he was really relaxed out there today, even when CASH LUCK came up to us half-way through the race," said Brown.

"The way he raced today and how relaxed he was, without a doubt he can go further, to 2000m and will continue to improve."

GOODMAN has now won six wins and four placings in 11 starts.
