Prolific Huka Falls back in winner's circle

HUKA FALLS ended his longest losing sequence of five runs when he made all the running to win the Benchmark 97 - 1100m handicap on the polytrack here today.

In his first 13 starts, the New Zealand gelding won nine times and just fell a little short in the Group races, finding one to beat in the Woodlands Handicap last August.

In his last five appearances, HUKA FALLS managed three placings, beaten a nose two starts back in a Open Condition-Weight event on Gold Cup day last November.

In his first start of the new season, there was to be no catching him as he battled to victory with Corey Crown astride to beat the favourite PIONEER SEVEN, who was 9kg better off in the handicap, to win by a head.

"He’s always worked good and never lost his form," said eight-time champion trainer Laurie Laxon of his charge.

"He was able to dictate terms and fought out the finish" referring to his 10th win today.
