HUKA FALLS has won just
once since Joao Moreira rode him to victory in an open handicap on the
polytrack almost exactly a year ago on Aug 23 last year.
His recent form has not
been inspiring but the partnership with Moreira today seemed to bring back
the spark in the five-year-old when they romped to victory in the Jockey
Club of Turkey Trophy, an open handicap over 1200m on the polytrack at
Kranji here today.
Moreira had won eight times
on the New Zealand gelding and the perfect understanding showed they got
home one and a quarter lengths ahead of ITALIAN JOB.
"He’s a beautiful-looking
horse and has always had good galloping ability. Joao knows him well as he’s
won on him a few times – I just wished he was here all the time!," said
trainer Laurie Laxon.
HUKA FALLS has now won 11
of 24 starts.
Moreira, who kicked off his
two-week stint in Singapore with a treble on Friday evening, bettered the
score with four winners this afternoon.
"A treble on Friday, four
winners today, I couldn’t be happier with the way things have gone for me so
far," said the four-time Singapore champion jockey who is making a name for
himself on Hong Kong now.
