Italian bred Lee's Surprise off the mark

The number 13 may be unlucky for some but for the connections of LEE'S SURPRISE, the Italian horse's 13th start in the country was a memorable one in more ways than one.

After managing just one placing in 12 previous runs, LEE'S SURPRISE finally got off the mark when he won the opening race here today, coasting home by one and three-quarter lengths.

LEE'S SURPRISE might also be the first Italian bred to win in the country.

LEE'S SURPRISE was a promising juvenile in his home country with a win, two thirds and a fourth placing in as many starts and won one of two starts at three before arriving in the country in July last year.
