Indian Jade sparkles in Singapore debut

After a disastrous campaign in Hong Kong, INDIAN JADE regained some of old sparkle to win first-up in Singapore in style at Kranji here today.

Jockey Nathan Berry bidded for his time on the English four-year-old, settling the gelding in midfield before pouncing to win drawing away by one and a half lengths in the Benchmark 67 - 1100m sprint on the polytrack.

INDIAN JADE cost just £13,000 as a yearling but showed tremendous potential with two wins in England before crossing the channel to contest the Group 1 Grand Criterium (1400m) and did well to finish third to OLYMPIC GLORY.

Shipped to Hong Kong last year, the gelding failed to reproduce his European form and finished down the field in two starts.

"I didn’t know what to expect from him today and I wasn’t sure what happened in his last two starts (in Hong Kong). But he impressed us with his track work and did ok in trials the other day," said his new trainer Michael Freedman.

It was only the second winner for Berry since relocating here for a four-month stint this month. He later made it a double by piloting home SHIN GOONG.
