John cops two suspensions for ride on Prerich

IPOH:  Jul 19, 2014

Jockey Andrew John Sundradas (S John) was today charged twice for his ride on PRERICH in a Class 5 - 1100m handicap on the straight course here today.

Firstly, John pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding PRERICH at approximately the 1000m, he shifted his mount out when insufficiently clear of DUSKY MAIDEN (M Yusri), causing that horse to be checked and lost ground.

When deciding on the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration his guilty plea, riding record, mitigating factors and the degree of interference caused. John’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of four race days. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of John’s suspension to take effect from Jul 28 and to expire on Aug 9, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.

At the conclusion of another inquiry, S John was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards, in that whilst riding PRERICH, after not securing a good jump, he failed to take a clear run directly in front of him between NUWA (App MM Firdaus) and ITS ONLY MONEY (App KC Wong) when it was reasonable and permissible to do so.

When deciding on the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration his riding record and mitigating factors. John’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months with effect from Jul 28 and to expire on Sep 27, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (8.00pm). This suspension is to be served concurrently with his four-day suspension.
