She may be the only rose
among the thorns but KIWI KARMA lowered the colours of odds-on favourite
AFFLECK and the rest of the boys with an impresive win in the Group 2
S$325,000 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe over 1200m at Kranji here tonight.
Out in a flash from her
ride barrier, the New Zealand filly was a clear in the early stages and
jockey Manoel Nunes quickly parked her next to the rails, then allowed
BARNATO to range alongside her on settling down.
But KIWI KARMA regained the
lead at the top of the straight and shot clear with 300m to go with AFFLECK
the only one looking dangerous. But the filly was simply too good and went
on to win by one and a half lengths.
It was her third
consecutive win in this year's Aushorse Golden Horseshoe series, coming
after her win in the IRT Juvenile Stakes on the polytrack last months and
the Magic Millions National Yearling Stakes two weeks ago.
For Kiwi trainer Laurie
Laxon, it was a 1-2 finish and his fourth win in the six-race series as
AFFLECK was successful in the Inglis Melbourne Stepitup Stakes in his only
previous start last month.
"She’s a great filly and it
was a great effort by her today," said Laxon.
"She may be small but what
a big heart she has," said winning Manoel Nunes who celebrated his 50th win
of the season on the filly.
