Jockey Peter Lao Weng Hong
landed his first win since making a comeback to race riding in July last
year when successful on SUPER SIX in the Class 4, Div 3 - 1200m on the
polytrack at Kranji here today.
The Macau-born rider has in
fact gone seven years without a win, during which time injury forced him out
of the saddle from 2008 until his comeback last year.
"I am really happy to win
again after such a long time," Lao said simply.
When Lao rode SUPER SIX in
his last start, they finished second last, which probably explained why the
gelding started at long odds today, returning a dividend of $138.
"This horse has improved a
lot from his last start and the distance suits him," Lao said. It was just
the second win in 24 starts for SUPER SIX.
Lao's association with
Singapore went back to 1996 when he first rode at Bukit Timah and won the
Queen Elizabeth II Cup and Raffles Cup that year on the Charles Leck-trained
EMERALD ISLES.
At Kranji, Lao was in the
Patron’s Bowl (BON AMIE in 2002) and the Kranji Mile (PACIFIC PRINCE) both
in 2002.
