SIR LOVESALOT stepped up on
a creditable sixth in his debut early this month to carve out a narrow win
in the Benchmark 83 - 1200m sprint at Kranji here tonight.
Last time out, he was
caught wide with no cover but this time around, jockey Corey Crown stuck to
the rails from his inside barrier. Racing behind horses, they found an
opening on the rails round the home turn and went for it.
In a keenly contested race
where five horses were seen with a chance in the home stretch, SIR LOVESALOT
managed to put his head in front at the post.
SIR LOVESALOT was purchased
for NZ$200,000 as a yearling and won five races from 17 starts which
included the listed Shaw's Wire Robes Sprint at Te Rapa.
The New Zealand gelding
also contested three Group 1 event, the Telegraph Handicap, Waikato Draught
Sprint and Easter Handicap at Ellerslie, but were unplaced.
"I know the owner for a
long time," said trainer Bruce Marsh. "We thought he would be good enough to
bring here. He’s a lovely horse to train and I think he’s got a bright
future here."
