Magneto smashes record in Committee's Prize

WAR AFFAIR, who made a clean sweep of the three-year-old series earlier in the year, found his match on his return to racing in the Group 3 S$200,000 Committee's Prize (1600m) at Kranji here today.

In his last outing, WAR AFFAIR had set a course record in winning the Singapore Guineas back in May.

But that mark was smashed by MAGNETO today when he made all the running in a time of 1min. 33.28secs., leaving WAR AFFAIR trailing three and a half lengths in second place.

The victory was the second win four starts for MAGNETO and provided Mauritian jockey Nooresh Juglall his first feature race success in Singapore.

After finishing third in his debut in Argentina, MAGNETO went on to reel off five wins and was unbeaten in four starts at three, including the Listed Clasico Embrujo over 1600m at San Isidro.

"He’s a mile horse. I wouldn’t put him beyond anything further at this stage and that’s why I will stick to just the Kranji Mile (Oct 5) for him," said trainer Patrick Shaw.
