DARK MATTER made a
triumphant return to Malaysia when he captured the RM150,000 Peugeot Trophy
over 1100m at Sungei Besi here today, making it two wins from two
appearances in the country.
The last time the
Australian gelding raced in Malaysia was in August last year when he
accounted for a Class 1 field over 1200m on this track.
That outing came after DARK
MATTER had been out of action for 17 months following a successful campaign
in Dubai where he won two of four starts for owner Hippocrates Stable and
trainer Steven Burridge.
Immediately after his win
last year, DARK
MATTER returned to Singapore but disappointed in three subsequent starts. He then came
back to Malaysia to re-join trainer Frank Maynard and today's outing was his
first in more than 10 months.
Jockey Noel Callow parked
the six-year-old third on the rails and went after the pacemaker YAN SANDRA
on his inside at the 300m when he leader drifted out.
The pair fought
stride-for-stride for a while but DARK MATTER drew away at the finish,
winning by one and three-quarter lengths.
Bought for A$140,000 as a
yearling, DARK MATTER also won four races from eight starts at Kranji in
2011, bringing his career record to eight wins and three seconds in 17
starts.
