Back in Singapore for a
two-week stay before the start of the new Hong Kong racing season next
month, Brazilian jockey Joao Moreira did not take long to ride into the
winner's circle at Kranji here tonight.
After finding one to beat
in two consecutive races, the record-breaking Singapore champion jockey for
the past four years quickly stepped it up to steer STATE TROOPER to a
fighting win in the Class 5 - 1100m sprint on the polytrack.
Moreira went on to land two
more winners, PICTURE and AFTERNOON DELIGHT to emerge as the top rider at a
meeting here yet again.
Moreira first came to
Singapore in 2009 and finished third on the table with 69 winners that year.
The following season, he broke the riding record with 116 winners, then
rewrote it with 153 and 206 winners respectively the following two seasons.
Although he left for Hong
Kong in October last year, he still won the championship with 179 winners.
In Hong Kong, Moreira
continued where he left off by booting home 97 winners to finish second
behind Zac Purton in the jockey's table despite starting the 2013/14 season
two months later than the others.
He had the best winning
percentage at 20% and his mounts earned a staggering HK$99mil, the third
highest aggregate amongst the jockeys.
