Australian jockey Nathan
Rose made a dream start to his first stint in Malaysia when he booted home
veteran galloper LIBERATION SPIRIT to win the Class 5 - 1800m handicap at
Sungei Besi here today, a novelty meeting offering half the normal prize
money of a regular meeting.
LIBERATION SPIRIT was a
very expensive purchase by his owners who paid US$425,000 as a yearling in
the United States.
The American gelding then
managed a win at Newmarket and two placings from seven starts in England
before moving to Dubai (where he had one unplaced run) before ending up in
Malaysia.
In nearly five seasons
prior to today, LIBERATION SPIRIT managed just three previous wins and the
1800m trio proved to his favourite distance as it was his third win over the
trip today.
Rose, 24, with 250 winners
to his name, could not have asked for a better start here as LIBERATION
SPIRIT cruised home by five and three-quarter lengths.
