Australian jockey Nathan
Berry had a dream start to his four-month stint in Singapore when he
scored on his very first ride astride SERPICO at Kranji here today.
The New Zealand gelding, who has five consecutive seconds
before winning a Kranji Stakes D event last time out, kept up the winning
form to lead all the way in the Novice - 1600m event.
"I did put a bit of pressure on myself to succeed here so
it’s great to get the monkey off my back right away and get that first win,"
said Berry.
"I’m happy for Nathan, it’s great for him to get his
first winner from his first ride," said trainer Michael Freedman.
"I think he’s the type who will get better as he goes
further up in distance," Freedman said of SERPICO.
Meanwhile, Brazilian jockey
Vagner Leal celebrated the extension
of his licence by booting home RON to victory in the Class 5 - 1600m
handicap.
Earlier this week, the Singapore Turf Club announced that
his six-month licence, which expires on Apr 18, will be extended till the
end of the year on Dec 31.
Veal rode eight winners in 2013 and has two more this
season before his success today.
And Jamie Kah ended his
three-week stay in Singapore with her second win on TWIST OLIVER.
