KUALA LUMPUR:  Mar 27, 2014

Two newly licensed trainers, Lawson Moy and Ooi Chin Chin, will make their debut at Sungei Besi here on Saturday.

Lawson Moy, based here, will be sending out eight runners while Ooi Chin Chin, based in Penang, will have two runners.

Moy started out in horseracing in his native Singapore working for South African trainer Patrick Shaw for two years and eight-times Singapore champion Laurie Laxon for one year before moving on to Melbourne where he spent a year studying Equine Management at the Marcus Oldham Collage as part of the S.T.A.R (Singapore Training Academy for Racing) Program run by the Singapore Turf Club.

On returning to Singapore in 2009, Lawson became a B Trainer, firstly to Bruce Marsh, where he stayed for two years, and worked for Steven Gray in the same capacity until 2011 when he moved to KL and joined forces with Tony Yeoh until he was granted his A liecence this month.

Ooi started his career as a riding boy for retired trainer Teh Choon Beng for three years in 1992.

After a short break, he joined Benny Lim Hock Soon as a riding boy and worked under several trainers before he gained his B licence with Stephen Cook in 2007.

For the next seven years, Ooi also worked under Cecil Robert, Lim Hoon Seng, Thomas Gillespie and David Miller before being granted his stables by the Penang Turf Club.
