After making quite an
impression by winning twice and was placed twice in his first four starts
early last year, it took ONE RAR nearly 14 months to regain his winning form
in late April this year.
But since winning a Kranji
Stakes C event over 1900m event on Apr 25, the Australian gelding has gone
from strength to strength, starting thrice more in similar company for two
more wins.
And at Kranji tonight, ONE
RAR battled to victory at another level when he accounted for a strong field
to win the S$150,000 Causeway Classic Stakes (1800m) on the polytrack, the
surface on which he has now recorded all his six wins.
Ridden by Matthew Kellady,
ONE RAR settled just off the pace after jumping from the inside barrier
before powering home to beat GOLIATH and the front-running NANDOWRA.
It was the first group
success for Kellady who enjoyed a lot of successes with trainer Don
Baertschiger before two major injuries took their toll on the rider.
His comeback has not been
easy but striking up a partnership with Shane Baertschiger (Don retired in
2012) in April has been the best thing to happen to Kellady in recent years.
"I was apprenticed to Don
and I’ve always had a good relationship with him and Shane over the years,"
said Kellady. So it’s only fitting I won my first Group race on one of their
horses."
ONE RAR did not race as a
juvenile but finished on board in all his eight outings at three, winning
his last outing at Nowra before coming out to Singapore.
