It is the perfect partnership. The last time David Flores rode EL PADRINO, the pair captured the Group 3 Merlion Trophy in March, giving both the Mexican jockey and the New Zealand gelding their first group success. EL PADRINO has since gone on to finish third in the Group 3 Kranji Sprint and fourth in the Group 1 Lion City Cup, and was unplaced in the KrisFlyer International Sprint with other riders. With Flores back in the saddle at Kranji tonight, EL PADRINO found his rhythm again in the Group 2 S$200,000 Woodlands Handicap over 1200m. As with his last win, the six-year-old came near last from the home turn to win drawing away by one and a half lengths. "“It’s very special to win another feature race here in Singapore and to do it with the same horse is also very exciting for me," said Flores. For trainer Alwin Tan, it was his fifth group success in a highly successful season, having saddled 45 thus far and is currently second in the trainer's table behind Laurie Laxon. Tan also made a clean sweep of all three legs of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge with WAR AFFAIR. EL PADRINO, together with TRUDEAU and SPEEDY CAT, will represent Singapore at the Asia Challenge Cup on Aug 31, South Korea’s first international invitation race that will also feature three participants from Japan to take on the eight local hopes. |
