MYSTIC POWER cast his spell
on his rivals once again to chalk up his second big win in just over three
months.
Last December, the
Australian four-year-old completed a hat-trick when he captured the RM1 mil
Malaysian Magic Millions Classic (1200m), a restricted race for three and
four-year-olds.
MYSTIC POWER failed in his
big test in opening company in the Tunku Gold Cup in February, but has
redeemed himself with another hat-trick, culminating with his victory in the
RM350,000 Selangor Gold Cup (1600m) at Sungei Besi here today, despite being
the youngest runners in the 14-horse field.
Kept well in touch with the
leaders throughout, MYSTIC POWER shot to the front with some ease in the
home stretch but had to stave off a late surge by the Malaysian bred
BEAUTIFUL CHOICE to win by a neck.
MYSTIC POWER showed promise
as a juvenile when he was placed four times in six starts, most notable
being his third in the Group 1 St Albans Stakes (1290m) at Moonee Valley.
After two unplaced runs as
a three-year-old, he was dispatched to Malaysia and trainer Johnny Lim allowed him plenty of time to settle before introducing him to local fans. He
has now six wins in eight starts.
It was a superb afternoon
for winning jockey Azhar Ismail who went on to complete a hat-trick for Lim,
and an even better day for the trainer who had saddled two more winners
earlier in the programme.
