After being placed in all
his six starts in Australia without winning, REACH FOR THE SUN made the
breakthrough in his very outing in Singapore when he triumphed in the
Initiation - 1200m sprint at Kranji here tonight.
His consistent record down
under meant that he was backed as the $7 favourite, and the three-year-old
never gave his backers any anxious moment, leading from start to finish to
win by two and a quarter lengths.
"He’s been racing over
longer distances so far but this was just over 1000m so I decided to put the
blinkers on him and let him just sprint all the way. It was a good win and
I’m very happy with the way he ran," said trainer Desmond Koh.
REACH FOR THE SUN,
initially sold for A$12,000 as a yearling in Australia, was later offered at
Ready To Run sale in New Zealand and went under the hammer for NZ$60,000.
REACH FOR THE SUN is a
half-brother to OCEAN PRINCESS who won two races at 1200m and 1400m in
Singapore.
REACH FOR THE SUN is
jockey Manoel Nunes 60th win of the season.
