Sebrose gets maiden win in stewards' room

There was high drama in the Restricted Maiden - 1400m sprint when odds-on favourite SEBROSE was beaten a head by HIGHER SOUL after the pair had gone stride-for-stride for the final 300m of the event.

But as soon as the riders returned to scale, the siren went off after Manoel Nunes, the rider of SEBROSE, lodged a protest for interference by the winner.

The objection was upheld, to the delight of the many backers of SEBROSE who had found one to beat in his last two starts from his first three runs.

"I fell behind by half-a-length when she (HIGHER SOUL) bumped me. My horse fought back and lost by a head. He should have won more easily," said Nunes.

A lot is expected of SEBROSE, who was passed in at NZ$125,000 at the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale but was eventually bought by David Ellis for A$230,000 at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale in Australia.
