ZAC SPIRIT stamped his mark
as the new sprint king when he easily won the S$500,000 Lion City Cup over
1200m at Kranji here today.
Last time out, the
Australian four-year-old was hard pressed by EMPEROR MAX before prevailing
in the Group 3 Kranji Sprint, the second leg of the Singapore sprint series,
by a short head.
The pair squared off again
in the Group 1 event today but this time, ZAC SPIRIT has a lot more to spare
at the line, winning by one and a half lengths in a smart time of 1min.
8.76secs.
It now three consecutive
group wins for ZAC SPIRIT who was successful in the Group 3 Three Rings
Trophy in February.
Having passed his big test
today, ZAC SPIRIT is now setting his sight on the KrisFlyer International
Sprint next month.
Trainer Cliff Brown, who
won the Group 1 Emirates Singapore Derby with CLINT in 2011, the win
provided an unusual feeling. "I’ve won a few Group 3 sprint races but never
the big one, a Group 1," he said.
"We just need to keep
ticking him over and I think there’s still improvement in him before the
KrisFlyer."
ZAC SPIRIT, purchased by
Brown for A$140,000 as a yearling, has now eight wins and three placings
from 12 starts.
