Irish jockey James Sullivan
booted home his first winner in Malaysia when successful astride STRALETA in
the SLTC Beauty Beyond Boundaries Trophy at Sungei Besi here today.
The 1400m sprint for
fillies and mares was staged to mark the annual Ladies Day meeting at the
club and STRALETA started odds-on favourite in the eight-horse field.
Sullivan and fellow
Irishman Kieran O'Neill have been in the country for a couple of weeks now
with the latter having scored his first winner two weeks ago on DEVIL'S CUT.
STRALETA, who won two races
in Australia for trainer Shane Edwards, has now picked up three more wins in
Malaysia for the Aussie after he relocated here.
Sullivan began his
apprenticeship in Ireland but it was after he moved to England that his
career really took off, finishing second in the apprentice table in 2010.
Perhaps it was appropriate
that on Ladies Day, it was another mare SISTER IN LAW who won the main event
of the day, the RM150,000 Chairman Guineas Trophy over 1600m. It was the
fifth win in 15 starts for the Irish four-year-old.
