Holy Warrior slays his rivals in debut

Lucky Stable, once a big name in local racing with several major race wins, may have a top-notch galloper in HOLY WARRIOR judging from the way he accounted for his rivals in his Singapore debut in the Kranji Stakes C - 1200m sprint at Kranji here today.

The Irish gelding raced five times as a three-year-old in Great Britain and France for two wins including the listed Prix Policeman over 2000m at Cagnes-sur-mer.

The four-year-old had shown plenty of speed in his trials at Kranji but still the way he accounted for his rivals in his Singapore debut today surprises a few today.

Ridden by Manoel Nunes, HOLY WARRIOR came from just off the pace to win by one length in a smart time of 1min. 9.74secs.

"Though the distance was a touch short, I thought it was the right race to get him going," said trainer Michael Freedman who is sending out a Lucky Stable runner for the first time today. "I haven’t seen many horses to take on Class 3 horses and win at their very first race here. If he can reproduce that turn of foot over longer distances, that augurs very well for his future here."
