After being placed in his
first two starts, WIMBLEDON finally served up an ace in the Restricted
Maiden event over 1100m on the polytrack at Kranji here this evening, going
some ways to recoup his huge price tag.
China Horse Club Stable has
paid A$170,000 at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale and the game changer
this time compared with his two previous starts was the use of blinkers on
the two-year-old.
"He was switching off at
the final 100m at his first two starts and has a tendency to look around
instead of focusing,” said trainer Michael Freedman.
“So I spoke with (Manoel)
Nunes and we felt that the blinkers would help him concentrate better and we
trialled him with them for the first time eight days ago and we were very
happy with him after that."
WIMBLEDON, teaming up with
Nunes for the third time, was installed a raging favourite at $7 and showed
the way throughout to win by one length.
Nunes went on to boot home
two more winners to bring his tally to 82 for the season thus far.
