Aerovelocity too speedy in KrisFlyer Sprint

Hong Kong's AEROVELOCITY completed a hat-trick of international Group 1 wins when he captured the S$1mil KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) at Kranji here tonight.

Following his success in the Longines Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) on home turf last December and the Takamatsunomiya Kinen (1200m) in Japan on Mar 29, the New Zealand six-year-old was sent out odds-on favourite at $8 for the Sprint.

AEROVELOCITY never gave his backers an anxious moment as he led from pillar to post with Zac Purton astride to win by one-and-a-half lengths from home representative EMPEROR MAX, who also occupied the same spot last year.

Hong Kong's LUCKY NINE, winner of the Sprint in the last two years, finished third this time.

"It is more a relief than a thrill to win as we are a long way from home," said winning trainer Paul O'Sullivan. "He might have won with a little bit in hand as he was sitting pretty, so we are just relieved."

It's the fifth win by Hong Kong in 10 runnings of the International Sprint.

With the success in Japan and Singapore, AEROVELOCITY has now bagged two legs of the Global Sprint Challenge Series.
