After two near missed,
EMPEROR'S BANQUET finally managed to lay out a feat for his connections when
he captured the S$200,000 Fortune Bowl (2000m) at Kranji here today.
Last November, the
Australian gelding who was only a maiden winner in Australia beat all but
stablemate QUECHUA in the Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup (2200m).
Last month, EMPEROR'S
BANQUET went down to KNIGHT'S COMMAND in the Group 3 Woodlands Classic
Stakes but he turned the tables on the latter today with a 4-kg weight
advantage, winning by a neck.
"On what he did the last
time, I thought he had a good chance of winning today," said trainer Patrick
Shaw. "He’s a good honest horse who’s been very good to us, but he would
probably be out of his depth in a race like the SIA Cup."
While he won only once in eight starts down
under, EMPEROR'S BANQUET has now chalked up seven wins from 20 starts in
Singapore.
