Kuantan Bao shows class in winning debut

KUANTAN BAO may be late into the game but he made it count when he scored a runaway win in the Maiden - 1200m handicap here today.

Sold for A$18,000 as a yearling, the Australian gelding landed in April last year but had to wait for more than 14 months before making his racing debut today.

Ridden by Yan Weng Kuan, the four-year-old was quickly out of the gate and led his rivals on a merry chase, winning by two and a half lengths to pay a handsome RM74. The odds-on favourite DEVIL BULL (RM6) was never in the hunt, finishing sixth.

LEMON LAW, meanwhile, chalked up his fifth win in seven starts since last December, easily winning the Stakes A set-weight event over 1200m.

The American gelding cost just US$6,500 as a yearling and has improved by leaps and bounds since last December when he was still racing in Class 4. He has now seven wins in 19 starts.
