Trainer John Brink leaves
end of June KUALA LUMPUR: Jun 15, 2015 |
|
American trainer John Brink will be relinquishing his licence at the end of the month, making him the fourth trainer since last month to quit the local scene. Aditiyan Selvaratnam quit on May 11 while Thomas Gillespie ended his tenure on May 15. David Miller bowed out in a blaze on glory last week after saddling DEVONSHIRE to win the RM500,000 Piala Emas Sultan Selangor (2000m). Brink first came to Malaysia in 1993 to train at the newly opened Sungei Besi race track, winning the Sultan Gold Vase with WILD N DARING and Agong Gold Cup with BECQUEREL the same year, and the Sprint Trophy with KIM KIM II the following season. Brink moved to Singapore in 2000 only to quit and returned to the States two years later. In 2009, Brink made a comeback to the local scene, based at Sungei Besi but his current stint has not been as successful as his previous one. His most notable recent win was the 2012 Malaysian 3YO Championship with COLIN THE FIRTH. |
