Trainer David Miller bid
farewell to Malaysian racing in the best possible manner when his
penultimate runner DEVONSHIRE captured the RM500,000 Piala Emas Sultan
Selangor (2000m) at Sungei Besi.
It turned out to be his
biggest win in a little more than three years in Malaysia. He relinquishes
his licence tomorrow.
Miller took over the former
Singapore galloper in October last year and today's win was his second with
the New Zealand seven-year-old.
DEVONSHIRE, whose dam is a
three-quarter sister to XTHEREST, winner of 10 races in Malaysia including
the Gold Cup in Penang and the Tunku Gold Cup, won five races at Kranji for
trainers Stephen Gray and Laurie Laxon including the El Dorado Classic
(2200m).
Miller was granted a MRA licence in May 2012 and was
initially based in Penang before moving to Sungei Besi.
Miller saddled four winners in his first season in 2012
and had a respectable 14 wins the following year and 12 last season. He
managed five winners this year.
