As part of their 40th
anniversary celebrations, The Association of British Women in Malaysia (ABWM)
had a race named in their honour at Sungei Besi here today.
And most appropriately, it
was a British jockey who should win the Metro A event over 1700m.
Brett Doyle returned to the
Malaysia capital after 12 months to steer CRAZY CLUB to victory in the ABWM
Ruby Anniversary Stakes.
It was the fourth win in 20
starts in Malaysia for CRAZY CLUB. The gelding also picked up one win in 12
starts in his native Australia.
CRAZY CLUB was the middle
of a splendid treble for Doyle who also scored on ROUGH RULER and NINETYSIX
STAR from just six rides for the meeting.
Doyle, 42, has ridden more
than 500 winners in the United Kingdom, including the Group 1 Sussex Stakes
on SAYYEDATI in 1995. He has also ridden successfully in Hong Kong, Japan,
Dubai, Bahrain, Macau and Singapore.
Among his most notable wins
overseas are the Grade 1 Satsuki Sho (Japan 2000 Guineas) on NO REASON in
2002, the (then Group 3) Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai on the Hong Kong-trained
JOY AND FUN in 2010 and the 1999 Singapore Gold Cup astride CARRY THE FLAG.
