EXCELLENT ONE created the
biggest upset of the season thus far in an evening when there were three big
surprises at Kranji here tonight.
The two-year-old took
advantage of a light impost of 49.5kg in the Restricted Maiden - 1200m
sprint to sit second in the running before beating the favourite SPECIAL ID
by half a length. He paid $764.
EXCELLENT ONE cost A$5,000
as a yearling and was passed in at A$20,000 (Reserve A$25,000) at the Ready
2 Race sale.
"He ran a pretty good race
today and the light weight probably helped but it was an unexpected win as
he didn’t show much in his trackwork and trials," said trainer Tan Hor Khoon
.
After finishing unplaced in
his first two starts, it was not surprised that SO THE THING should be
ignored in the betting in the Initiation - 1200m sprint on the polytrack.
But the four-year-old mare,
bred by his owner Leong Ho Yee in partnership with two others, proved too
good for her nine rivals tonight, leading from start to finish to win easily
by two and a quarter lengths. She paid $214.
WHITE COFFEE, who won his
last start in Class 4, defied a promotion to snatch a thrilling win, winning
by a nose in the Class 3 - 1400m handicap to pay $166. It was the seventh
win in 39 starts for the seven-year-old who was also a winner in Australia
before coming to Singapore.
