Heirro knocks them out of the park

KUALA LUMPUR:  Dec 19, 2015

After finishing down the field in his debut last month, HEIRRO produced the shock of the season when he won on the final day of racing in 2015 for the Selangor Turf Club at Sungei Besi here today.

Ridden by apprentice Mohd Faizal Wahidon, the Australian gelding settled just off the pace before hitting the front in the home stretch to win by 1 1/4-length from the fast-finishing SWEET LODGE, paid RM1,572 for a win, the highest payout of the season.

It was also the first ever win by 33-year-old Faizal in his 48th ride.

HEIRRO, whose name means iron in Spanish, was sold for A$16,000 as a weanling and arrived in Malaysia as a late three-year-old in July last year. His performance in his belated debut was hardly inspiring which was perhaps why punters totally ignored him in the betting today.
