Stanzout gives Feiruz comeback win

Comeback kid Aidil Feiruz scored his first win in four years with a brilliant come-from-behind ride on STANZOUT in the Class 5 - 1700m handicap on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

Apprentice Feiruz's last success came on JOYLUCK on July 31, 2011 for his master Bruce Marsh and since then has to face health issues and gone under the knife a few times in the last three years.

Feiruz has been winless since re-signing for Marsh at the end of last year and came close to winning on STANZOUT last month when the combination finished second to SUPER BONUS in a claiming riders event, just like today.

The veteran galloper, nine years of age, has eight wins under his belt but has not won since May last year but the pair were not to be denied this time.

Feiruz found himself well back in the running hugging the rails and was it was not until the top of the straight when the front horses fanned out that he found room between runners. He drove STANZOUT through to win by three-quarter length.

"I’ve been through a very tough time with my collarbone (infection), and I lost count how long I stayed in hospital," said a happy Feiruz. "Bruce was very nice to offer me the job as his apprentice again and that’s one good way to repay him."
