Troy Jackman, who was
granted his trainer's licence last month, saddled his first winner when
WHAT'S DAT cruised to victory in a Class 4 - 1400m handicap at Sungei Besi
here today.
The former Singapore
galloper, who was having his first start in Malaysia and piloted by champion
jockey Jose De Souza, made all the running and romped home by five and a
half lengths.
WHAT'S DAT is Jackman's
18th runner and the victory nearly did not materialise.
The start pf the race was delayed for ive minutes as
WHAT’S DATE had cast its off-fore plate and proved difficult to be reshod.
The gelding was checked by the club veterinary surgeon and was passed fit to
race.
WHAT'S DAT was originally
purchased by Hong Kong Jockey Club for A$200,000 as a yearling but ended up
in Singapore where he won his debut in March 2013 but managed just one more
win in 19 more starts before crossing over to Malaysia.
Jackman is a former top
Perth rider who won two two Perth Cups and one Adelaide Cup and has ridden
successfully in Mauritius (where he won the Gold Cup in 1997), Malaysia,
Singapore and India.
Jackman became assistant
trainer to Peter Fell in March last year before setting up his own stables.
