Apprentice KC Wong lands first quartet

PENANG:  Feb 15, 2015

Apprentice Wong Kam Chong was in superb form at Penang today when he booted home four winners and was placed second twice from six rides. It was his first-ever four-timer.

Among his wins was astride NOT FREE NOW in the first "apprentice only" race held in Malaysia for more than three decades. Such races were a regular feature of the local scene in the sixties and seventies.

For NOT FREE NOW, it was the end of a long lane for the Australian gelding who started his campaign in mid 2012 and failed to show up in 13 starts in Singapore.

Transferred to Stephen Cook, it was his first win in 17 starts in Malaysia after knocking on the door with five placings last year.
