STAR QUALITY won the Open set-weight event over 1400m here
today to become the most improved and most successful galloper of the
season.
Back in January, the Australian gelding was still racing
and winning in Class 5.
Three more wins in Class 4 later, STAR QUALITY caused a
bit of a surprise when he finished second to LITTLEBOYOFJOY in the Perak
Derby (2400m). Then came another splendid second (to DEVONSHIRE) in the
Piala Emas Sultan Selangor in June.
With the suspension of racing in late August, STAR QUALITY
had to wait until today to return to action and he made it count with
another winning display, his fifth of the season and sixth lifetime success.
STAR QUALITY was the final of a splendid hat-trick by
apprentice Wong Kam Chong who now ranks second only to Jose De Souza in
terms of the number of wins for the season.
Beginning this year, there will be no MRA championship as
jockey licences are issued by the respective clubs.
Wong's hat-trick brought his tally to
37 for the season, only two short of De Souza's total. In his maiden season
last tear, Wong rode 14 winners.
