Emperor Max rules in Garden City Trophy

EMPEROR MAX returned to racing after his superb second to AEROVELOCITY in the KrisFlyer International Sprint back in May and promptly won the Group 3 Garden City Trophy at Kranji here today.

It was the eighth win in 15 starts for the Australian gelding and his third group success after capturing the Group 2 Stewards' Cup and Group 3 Saas Fee Stakes last year.

Partnered by Corey Brown who has been his regular rider since his Stewards' Cup win in June last year, EMPEROR MAX was caught behind a wall of horses at the top of the straight but eventually came through on the rails to win by half-a-length from SUPER WINNER.

With the Garden City Trophy in the bag, EMPEROR MAX is unlikely to race again in Singapore this year, with either a trip to Ascot next month or Hong Kong in December on the cards.

Ascot or Hong Kong, Brown would love to continue his association with the gelding. "He’s definitely up there with some of the best sprinters I’ve ridden. The best was EXCEED AND EXCEL who was on a pedestal, but (EMPEROR) MAX would be just one rung below," he said.
