Mayweather knocks out rivals for upset win

IPOH:  Aug 23, 2015

MAYWEATHER knocked out his rivals for a huge upset in the final event here today.

Ridden by former champion jockey Jai Shankar, the Darci Brahma gelding came from just off the pace to win by three-quarter length to pay RM223 in the Class 4 - 1200m handicap.

The win came on the heels of two dismal outings in which he finished in the tail-end of the field. Prior to that, MAYWEATHER had registered his first win in Malaysia after coming over from Singapore.

MAYWEATHER was bought for NZ$120,000 at the Ready To Run sale and managed just one win in seven starts at Kranji.

Rookie apprentice Krishna Kumar Thangamani, who got off the mark with a double in Penang last Sunday, has added another win to his name with a hard-fought win on PHILIP in the Class 5 - 1800m handicap.
