Easy win for Parranda in CECF Singapore Cup

US mare PARRANDA, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, lived up to her top billing when she cruised to a runaway win in the S$3,050,000 CECF Singapore Cup (1800m) at Kranji here today.

The inaugural running of the Singapore Group 1 event drew a top field of nine runners (reduced to eight at the barriers) from the US, Australia and France, with TROPAIOS the sole runner carrying the Singapore flag.

But PARRANDA, trained by Christophe Clement and the highest rated at 111, proved too classy for the rest as she coasted home by two and a quarter lengths from Australia's ZULULAND.

"I’m not surprised she won as she was the best filly in the race and we had a dream run right through the race," said former French champion jockey Soumillon who has won major races all over the globe including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe twice.

French born Clement worked in the US and England before striking out on his own in 1991 and has won more than 200 stakes races, the biggest being the Belmont Stakes with TONALIST last year.
