Penang home-based meeting postponed

PENANG:  Oct 4, 2015

The Penang Turf Club (PNTC) home-based meeting today has been postponed to next Sunday, Oct 11, due to haze.

A statement from the PNTC this morning states: "The committee of Penang Turf Club having observed the deterioration of API reading rendering racing extremely unsafe and unhealthy for both jockeys and horses, a unanimous decision was made to postpone the home-based race meeting in the sole interest of safety."

As of 10.30am this morning, the API reading was 162.

Earlier, the Club announced that it hopes to be able to hold a home-based meeting on Oct 18 in replacement of the meetings that were cancelled due to the equine influenza outbreak.

The club had cancelled four meetings on Aug 30, Sept 13, 26 and 26.

PNTC also hopes to hold an additional open race day on Dec 26 should the ban on the movement of horses in Malaysia be lifted.
