POWER LION roared back to winning form with a new partner, carving out a gutsy in the Benchmark 83 - 1400m handicap at Kranji here tonight.

Danny Beasley has piloted the New Zealand gelding in all his eight starts last year, winning four times including a hat-trick in the middle of the season.

POWER LION could managed only third placings when when he started favourite at the tailend of last season but with Alan Munro riding him for the first time tonight, held off a late charge by WONDERFUL PRINCE to win by a nose.

"It was close but we were a bit lucky," said trainer Alwin Tan who finished runner-up in the premiership last year but picked up five awards including four for his champion WAR AFFAIR  at the Singapore Racing Award gala dinner on Tuesday night.

"He’s a big powerful horse and we were just a bit worried the sprint would find him out," said jockey Alan Munro. "The strong pace was perfect for him. He’s definitely got a big scope here."
